Almijara, Tejeda and Alhama Natural Park

Located between the provinces of Granada and Malaga, separating the Grenada Depression from the Axarquía in the province of Malaga. Mountain activities, canioning, hiking and nature experiences are available at this natural space among mediterranean pine forests, rivers and waterfalls. The scenary is highly recommended for geology and botanic lovers.

This natural park offer the possibility to enjoy a full baths complex with thermal-medicinal waters in where you can relax.

Baths still preserve medieval hot water tanks built by the Moors of the Almohade period (XIIth C.). They have been declared of cultural interest due to the historic medieval spa. These baths belong to a group of hot water springs up to 42º C all year round, with sulfate-calcium-magnesic, bicarbonated and oligometallic properties. Each spring is separated into different buildings with beautiful gardens among them. They are located in the Spa Hotel baths of Alhama.

Junta de Los Ríos Walk

This route begins in Otivar, located at the Rio Verde Valley, Km 31.5 off the GR-SO2 road or “Carretera de la Cabra” (goats road). It has moderate difficulty, a length of 6.3 km (one way) that can be done in about 3 hours approximately (6 hours aprox. full track). As you get to the source of Rio Verde river, views of La Almijara mountains can be admired. Some sections of this track were used to transport the fish from the coastal villages to the city of Granada for many centuries. It takes the name of cliffs crossing ” Los Poyos del Pescado” . During this walk we will find hanging bridges, canyons, natural waterfalls. The most outstanding are “Las Chorreras” and “La Cascada de Los Arboles Petrificados”. Apart from hiking in this area you can practice canyoning or take a swim at the natural swimming pools right at the Junta de los Ríos point (spring and summer recommended).

ZEC Tesorillo – La Caleta

Declared as special conservation area due to its great biological value for its marine flora and fauna. Between Almuñecar and Salobreña, the rocky cliffs form small coves and beaches that can be enjoyed for a day of sun and bathing, water sports, scuba diving, snorkling or just hiking alongside the coast anytime of the year.

Natural area Cerro Gordo

This natural area stands out for its cliffs, beaches and coves. It offers us options to take a walk through its interior area from which we have a beautiful views of the coast and its beaches. The other option would be along the coast, coves and seabed. For a full experience consider some water sports like diving, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle surfing, etc. at the local specialized schools. ZEC Cliffs of Calahonda, Castell de Ferro

Declared of special conservation area this natural place is located between Motril and Gualchos coastline. Beautiful landscapes where you can enjoy the valuable seabed by diving or snorkeling, or just spending a day on its beaches. Walk from Torrenueva to Joya beach is available and has an easy acces. Practice Water Sports and Scuba Diving, or rent a kayack in Calahonda, Rijana Beach or Castell de Ferro and discover the beauty of this coastal ocean life. Seasports centres at this LINK.

Charca Suarez

This is the most important wetland on the coast of Granada. Located in Motril Poniente beach, it is a natural reference area for bird watching. It is a perfect environment for birds hibernation and migrations. But we can also see other kinds of fauna such as wild boars, foxes, chameleons… as well as a diverse fauna distributed according to the proximity to the water. Natural monument Peñones de San Cristobal

It is located in Almuñecar, is a natural rock formation that has given rise to 3 large rocks that stand out and divide two of the beaches, San Cristobal and the Caletilla. Declared a natural monument in 2002, with a great marine biodiversity. You can climb it through a structure of stairs integrated in the peñon itself where you reach a viewpoint with a cross in the middle from which you can have wonderful views of the coast and the city. Access is free.

Sierra Nevada

Biosphere Reserve and National Park Sierra Nevada, thanks to their botanical, landscape and natural values. This national reserve offer excellent conditions to enjoy wintersports at the southern ski resort in Europe, as well as summer sports and leisure programs. It is located very close to the Tropical coast and the city of Granada, being able to enjoy mountain, coast or cultural tourism.
