Taverns with History
Salobrena’s historic taverns are places where gastronomy and the past meet. Many of these venues stand in old buildings that retain the character of earlier centuries, bringing together architecture, memory and cuisine.

The restaurant El Penon, for example, stands on a rocky formation that preserves Neolithic remains, along with Punic and Roman traces. It began life as a humble fishermen’s chambao and today is one of the landmarks of local seafood cuisine, famed for its espetos and incomparable sea views.
In the Old Quarter, the Paseo de las Flores preserves evidence of occupation since the Bronze Age. There, Cerveceria Martin offers a welcoming corner beside the Arab castle and the Postigo viewpoint, where every stone recalls the town’s medieval history.
In the Plaza del Antiguo Ayuntamiento, the historic heart of Salobrena, you will find La Botica, housed in a building that was once a real pharmacy centuries ago. Its menu blends tradition and simplicity, with dishes such as Spanish omelettes, garlic prawns and fried eggs with potatoes, served in a setting full of charm.
El Pesetas, next to La Boveda, preserves the structure of an old coal store. From its terrace there are views over the sea and the fertile plain, while its kitchen combines meats, fish and tapas with a contemporary touch.
Lastly, La Roka, in the Albaycin quarter, rises above the Tajo del Gambullon, near the villa’s old cemetery. Its cuisine blends tradition and creativity, with dishes such as Sultan salad or babuchas, served on a terrace overlooking the Mediterranean.
A villa to savour
Every corner of Salobrena has its own flavour and story. From tapas by the sea to dinners beneath the castle, everything in this town invites you to discover its essence through food. Its cuisine is a tribute to Mediterranean life: fresh, colourful, healthy and always shared. That is why it is no exaggeration to say that Salobrena is a villa to savour.
